Eight years after officially establishing Delivering as One way of cooperation, the Government and the UN System convened at the XI Joint Country Steering Committee (JCSC) to review greatest achievements in 2017 and major plans for 2018. Session of the body which oversees the implementation of the Integrated UN Programme for Montenegro, was co-chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Srđan Darmanović and UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro Fiona McCluney.

Representatives of UN agencies and eight line ministries reviewed of the first year of the second Integrated UN Programme, covering period 2017-2021, which is implemented through four strategic result areas: Democratic Governance, Environmental Sustainability, Social Inclusion and Economic Governance.
Minister Darmanović particularly highlighted key results of the MAPS process (Mainstreaming, Acceleration and Policy Support), underlining that it indicated the most meaningful ways to link EU Accession process with 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. “The MAPS process showed that two processes are highly complementary and that EU Accession greatly contributes to the implementation of two thirds of targets envisaged by the 17 Sustainable Development Goals,” said Darmanović.

The UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro, Fiona McCluney commended Government for development achievements in previous period, especially for country’s ratification of Paris Agreement. “It is very important that we continue to jointly invest efforts into implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, primarily in human rights protection, with special focus on the most vulnerable, but also on resolving environmental challenges, developing of green economy and empowering young people,” said McCluney.

The JCSC meeting was the opportunity for co-convenors to present key results of joint cooperation in 2017 and plans for the ongoing year, while the UN Resident Coordinator presented key highlight of the MAPS process as well as financial results and projections within the Integrated UN Programme. In 2017, UN organisations in cooperation with the Government, implemented programmes and projects worth 10 million dollars, while the Joint Country Steering Committee planned 14.7 million delivery in 2018.
