Caroline Tissot of Switzerland has been appointed as the new UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro. In this role, Ms. Tissot will lead the UN Country Team in supporting Montenegro’s efforts in the areas of sustainable development and human rights, advancing its national priorities.
“I am honored to take up my assignment in Montenegro, a country that has made important steps on its path toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, and has demonstrated a strong commitment to multilateralism,” said Ms. Tissot.
“Montenegro’s commitment to sustainability and human rights is a promise to its young people and future generations that no one will be left behind. The UN stands ready to work hand in hand with national institutions, civil society, private sector, and communities to help the country fulfil this promise,” Tissot highlighted.
As the UN Secretary-General’s designated representative, the Resident Coordinator guides the collective work of 19 UN agencies, funds, and programs in the country. This includes providing policy advice, mobilizing partnerships, and aligning UN support with Montenegro’s reform agenda.
“I look forward to collaborating with national partners on promoting human rights, inclusive economic development, enhancing human capital, strengthening social cohesion, and protecting the environment,” Ms. Tissot added. “Together, we can help Montenegro advance its Agenda 2030 and toward EU integration, reflecting its strong commitment to multilateralism and global cooperation.”
Ms. Tissot brings over 30 years of experience in development cooperation, humanitarian assistance, and peacebuilding. She most recently served as Regional Head of Cooperation for Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq, and as Deputy Head of Mission at the Swiss Embassy in Amman. Her distinguished international career also includes leading Switzerland’s peacebuilding programme in the Western Balkans, and senior advisory roles with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), as well as assignments in Moldova and Rwanda.
