It is critical that the most vulnerable ones are not left out of the recovery process.
Peter Lundberg has taken over the position of the UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro since January this year, and will coordinate work of the United Nations system in the country in the upcoming period.
"I am honored that the UN Secretary General has appointed me as his representative in a country which actively contributes to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and which is globally recognized as an example of effective cooperation between the UN system and the government and other national partners," Lundberg said, praising Montenegro's continued commitment to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter - peace and security, prosperity and protection of human rights.
In his meetings with the top state officials in the previous period, Lundberg emphasized strong commitment of the United Nations system to continue supporting Montenegro in achieving national priorities, as well as in COVID-19 response.
In time when the world is facing an unprecedented crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Agenda for Sustainable Development is more important than ever. The pandemic has created new vulnerabilities and deepened the existing ones, so it is critical that the most vulnerable ones are not left out of the recovery process. Achieving Sustainable Development Goals ensures exactly that – to leave no one behind.
