Diego Zorrilla is the new UN Resident Coordinator in Montenegro
On 1 September 2024, Diego Zorrilla of Spain took the position of the UN Resident Coordinator (ad interim) in Montenegro.
“I am pleased to join such an efficient UN Country Team in a country which is globally recognized as a very active UN member state and an example of effective cooperation of UN organisations, government and other partners. I look forward to further strengthening One UN and SDGs acceleration in Montenegro,“ said Zorrilla upon taking up the post.
Mr. Zorrilla comes to Montenegro from Yemen where he served as the Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator, overseeing one of the world's largest humanitarian operations. He also served as UN Resident Coordinator in Tunisia (2017-2020) and Ecuador (2012-2017).
With over 31 years of experience working for the United Nations, Mr. Zorrilla worked in fourteen different countries but also at the UN Headquarters in the UN Secretary-General’s team. He covered leadership roles in peacebuilding, peacekeeping, political mediation, development, and humanitarian response.
Zorrilla holds a law degree from Madrid's Autonoma University and a master's in Law from the Instituto de Empresa. He is fluent in Spanish, French, English, and Italian.
