Launching of the “Norway For You Montenegro” Project
Through the support to 16 local communities, the project is envisaged to create new jobs by supporting entrepreneurs and businesses.
Let me all warmly welcome you on behalf of United Nations team in the country. We are all very proud to stand behind and support our sister agency UNOPS in yet another push for supporting the country to get closer to fulfilment of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Adopted by 193 UN member countries, Agenda 2030 and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals present a bold global vision for future development that balances environmental, economic and social goals – and a world in which no one is left behind.
Reaching out to those who are left behind is exactly why are we here today – to mark the beginning of a developmental project which targets the least developed municipalities in Montenegro. This project, which will contribute to reduction of regional disparities in Montenegro, will be possible thanking to generosity of the Kingdom of Norway who funded the initiative.
Through the support to 16 local communities, the project is envisaged to create new jobs by supporting entrepreneurs and businesses, but also through social inclusion measures and development of the local infrastructure. Fully aligned with the Integrated Programme of Montenegro – a strategic vision of United Nations and the Government of Montenegro for the period 2017-2021 – this project is yet another anchor for the sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth on Montenegro.
It will be implemented by one of our sister agencies – the United Nations Office for Project Services. I use the opportunity to welcome UNOPS to the UN Country Team in Montenegro. I am sure they will bring new value to the UN team in Montenegro, with their mandate in project management, sustainable procurement and infrastructure.
Dear friends, I truly look forward to seeing changes on the ground made through this project which will, I’m sure, contribute to the more balanced socio-economic development of the country.
Before I finish, let me sincerely thank the Kingdom of Norway for recognising the United Nations as their regional partner and to express my strong belief that “Norway for You” will bring positive benefits and improve lives of the citizens of Montenegro.
